Pay Equity
Pay Equity Employers in Ontario must comply with the provincial Pay Equity Act or the federal Human Rights Act. It is not sufficient to have achieved pay equity at some point in the past. Employers must be vigilant in ensuring that, over the years, as the workforce changes, new jobs are created, jobs are affected by technological change and collective agreements are negotiated, pay equity is maintained. One employee complaint, or a spot audit and the failure to have maintained pay equity can become a serious and costly problem. When a business is purchased or sold, pay equity should always be a consideration. At Stringer Brisbin Humphrey we have experience assisting employers with pay equity maintenance, including dealing with the Pay Equity Commission and negotiating pay equity with trade unions. Complimentary firm newsletters and briefing breakfasts Articles on pay equity may appear from time to time in our complimentary newsletter, Stringer Brisbin Humphrey Reports or in our electronic bulletins.
