Stringer Brisbin Humphrey - Gregory F. McGinnis

Greg McGinnis is co-managing partner of the firm, having joined in 1996. Greg's practice extends into almost all aspects of labour and employment law.

Greg regularly provides guidance to businesses on how to conduct effective campaigns to remain union-free and represents employers in the litigation that often arises following an application for certification. He acts as spokesperson for employers during collective agreement negotiations and, where necessary, assists them in preparing for and reacting to strikes and picketing. He drafts employment contracts, employment policies and collective agreements, he defends employers who face wrongful dismissal litigation or grievance arbitration. He helps employers develop and implement strategies to minimize the costs associated with termination, and to achieve compliance with confusing and often onerous human rights and employment standards obligations.

He has developed programs and written papers on the subjects of absenteeism, workplace privacy, workplace harassment, e-mail and internet usage, and union organizing drives. Where appropriate, he draws upon his past experience as a reserve officer in the Canadian Forces in understanding the psychology and dynamics of the relationship between managers and employees.

Greg holds a B.A. and an LL.B. from the University of Toronto.
